Final Stash Report 2008 Wk 52

This year has gone by so fast and it just doesn't seem like we should be ready for 2009 already. This was my first year participating in Judy's stashbusting and it has been an eye opening experience. I ended up actually busting some stash this year, even with all that I bought in Paducah! So I consider it a good year. Would have liked to have had a higher number busted but I can live with it. So here goes my final report for 2008.

Fabric added this week - 0 yards
Fabric added year to date - 116 and 5/8 yards

Fabric used this week - 0 yards
Fabric used year to date - 152 and 3/4 yards

Net Used to Date - 36 and 1/8 yards

Stash Report #50

Wow it is hard to believe that 2 more reports and we will be starting over....gracious where has this year gone? I finished up the gifts for my MIL and got those shipped off earlier this week. And Sat I finished up a Secret Santa gift to be mailed off tomorrow. I will post the picture of MIL's gift but not he SS gift as she might be inclined to stop in here and have a look at my blog. Why I'm not sure as I've not been good lately about keeping it up. But I will do better!

Serger issue and Quiltathon progress

A few months back I got out my serger and was going to zip up some pillowcases real quick like for some Quilts of Valor Quilts. Well imagine my surprise when I went to sew and the machine would do nothing....I mean nothing, nadda, zilch.....I tried everything I could think of and resigned myself to the fact that it was going to have to go to the serger hospital. So back in the cupboard it went and I concentrated on other sewing. Well recently I made a pair of pillowcases for my MIL for part of her Christmas present and was frustrated that I couldn't serge the edges for a nice finish. Well the other day I was complaining to my friend in Ohio about this and we started talking and she started asking questions and one thing lead to another and I ended up getting out the manual......and read the troubleshooting guide.....well guess what? My serger has an LCD screen and if the presser foot isn't down it won't do a thing! Nothing, nadda, zich.....evidently when I went to use it before I was going to test drive it with something bulky and had lifted the presser foot...because once I put the foot down it worked!! I am so glad I didn't take it in to be serviced!! They, along with you would have a good laugh at my expense.

So for the first part of quiltathon weekend I was able to serge the edges of the pillowcases and I got 2 placemats made. They are also for my MIL. I went to quilt them and discovered I didn't have the right color thread for that so off to Joanns and dinner and Sat night was over. So today after work I will quilt them and they will be done. Maybe I can also whip up some QOV cases while I'm at it.....

Stash Report # 46

Oh my goodness...what a bad blogger I am...I can't believe it's been almost a month since my last post! One would hope that I have been sewing and just not had time to get in here. Truth of the matter had some things going on with my Mom that have been consuming my thoughts and really haven't been sewing much. Over the past couple weeks I did get a pair of pillowcases and a pair of potholders made for part of my Mother-in-Laws Christmas present. The blocks used in the potholders were from an online swap I did a number of years ago.

Stash Report #41

Well unfortunately there isn't much to report this week. I did put in a few stitches on the halloween wallhanging but that is all. Today Jim and I ripped out the carpet in the living and dining rooms and got that all tied up for the garbage man. Now to move on and start patching the holes/cracks and get the paint picked out for the walls. We won't really be doing a whole lot more to these rooms until after the first of the year. So here's a before and an after of the carpet episode today.

Good Grief!!

I can't believe it's been 2 weeks since I last posted. Things have been a tad crazy here at home and also at work...boss came back from his summer long trip to Greece. So it's time to get used to having him around again....he's not in the best of moods as business is down...so we all do alot of smiling and nodding around him and then run outside and scream! LOL I haven't been doing much on the sewing front lately....However today I did get some more buttonhole stitching done on the halloween wallhanging. And I've got the threads pulled to the back and tied off. I might sit down and do a little more tonight, as Jim is at a business dinner and Heather went to the mall, so it's me and Eddie!

Stash Report # 38

This week all I managed to do was make the Halloween Quilt.....it was a love and hate relationship! There was plenty of time spent ripping this sucker out and re-stitching...at times the top was folded up and thrown in the pile and walked away from, only to be gotten back out the next day and another attempt to finish it was made. Well on Saturday I finnaly finished the top! Thank heavens. So my stash totals remain the same from last week. Here's hoping this week is better!

Saturday Quiltathon progress

I worked off and on all day and most of the evening trying to finish this *()^%%*&) quilt top! I am relieved to say it is now a top! This pattern gave me fits...stitch some...press some.....UGH...rip some...stitch more...rip more.....but at least it is finally a top! So tomorrow I can work on the halloween wallhanging I have started....that is after work! The picture isn't the greatest...will take another one in the daylight tomorrow.

Quiltathon Weekend is here!

Judy over at Patchwork Times is hosting another quiltathon weekend and I am so in on this! I have a number of things I want to work on. Will update with progress as the weekend goes on. First on the list is the halloween quilt top to finish!

A day to remember

As I sit here and type this my mind goes back to this horrific day and I reflect on what I was doing and how I learned of this tragedy. On that morning I was happily working on getting my supplies all organized and put away for my new venture into selling PartyLite candles. And then the phone rang and it was our Son, calling to tell me to turn on the tv that something tragic had happened.....from that moment on the rest of the day I sat in utter disbelief at the things that had transpired and that the, still to this day unbelieveable loss of life that occured. I remember watching Peter Jennings on ABC News as he had the task of trying to stay composed and still inform of us what was happening.....It is still hard to believe that something of this magnitude could happen. The above pictures(taken by me) are of quilts that were displayed at a local quilt show in 2005. The star quilt is made using pictures of people who died on this day in the WTC.

Lots of finishing UFO's going on this week!

Now that I am finished with the socks, I can now work on other projects that have been laying around in various stages. First off I made the Christmas quilt top, last night was finish up Gone Camping top and then tonight I finished the Quilt for an Hour that Judy hosted back in May. Boy does it feel good to get some tops finished. I have a few halloween things I want to make, so will be starting to get those projects together tomorrow and will see what else is laying on the rocker over there wondering when it will get finished.

This was a good week for me. I finished up my socks for the Lost Sock Swap and mailed them off to Mar and she now has them. Yahoo! Now I could allow myself to work on the magazine/book challenge from an online group. I got the top all pieced and it is waiting on me to get the backing made so it can go to Shirley to be quilted. I did purchase 4 yards of halloween fabric this week.

Got some sewing done...

Over the past couple days I have finished all the snowball blocks for the magazine challenge I am in and have the Christmas block 1/2 way done. Hoping to finish those up today after work. I am anxious to see how this quilt is going to look. Will post pics later on tonight after I have more blocks done.

Otherwise it is a gloomy day here...getting clouds so far from Hanna and of course we are keeping an eye on Ike. Sure hope he goes somewhere else!

Socks, Sunsets & Quilt Blocks

I am so happy to be able to state that all the socks for the sock swap are finished and have been mailed off!!! Bigtime happy dancing here!!

Now that they are done I am allowing myself to sew other projects. I haven't allowed myself to work on any other projects until I had these finished. So below is a picture of the 2 blocks for the magazine challenge I am doing with some online friends. We were to go through magazines and books that we had at home and that we hadn't made any projects from. So I found this quilt in the 2004 issue of Quilting for Christmas. And then dug through my stash and found enough fabrics to make it!! Another plus!! So today after work I made up 1 of each of the 2 blocks for this quilt.

Below are a couple sunsets. The pinky one was taken the night Fay blew through. And the other was taken this past week.

Week #35 Stash Report

I did not add any stash this week....nor did I use any stash this week. Thursday I mailed off 90% of my socks for the sock swap and have been off and on working on the remaining 8 large ones that I need to mail off on Tuesday. So my totals are staying the same. Now to figure out what to work on first, I have a number of projects waiting and calling my name to be worked on. I do know that I need to make block #2 for Judy's BOM and block #3 is coming out tomorrow, also have a couple other things that need backing and quilted. And the magazine challenge is over there screaming at me to get started making blocks! Who knew fabric could yell so loud! LOL

Tropical Storm Fay

Well late Monday, early Tuesday Fay moved onshore. Fortunately for us it was south of Cape Coral so it hasn't been too bad. We've had rain and wind. Power has flickered a few times but we still have it! Yahoo! Jim boarded up the house last night and he just finished taking down the boards on the patio. So now we have some light in the house. Still dark in here, so we have some lights on. Here are some of the pictures I have taken so far. This was taken Monday morning on my way out the driveway. Just some clouds..

This was taken after work Monday around 4 PM.

Beginning of a gorgeous sunset Monday night!

What a way to start the day!

So work calls to inform me of a call off and that another server is coming in. I figure ok...I might as well get up and get my day going. I come out into the kitchen and Eddie is laying in front of the one desk that is along the garage wall and looking at it like he has something in his sights. For those who don't know Eddie is our daughter's cat and his picture is on the sidebar. So I take a closer look at him and there is something hanging off his mouth. Well I go and get a kleenex as I have no idea what this is, but usually this means it is a baby frog or lizard. No way am I touching those! So I wipe at his mouth and of course he isn't happy about that and then goes to the door to be let out on the lanai (patio). I let him out and watch from the kitchen to see what he does and then I hear this noise coming from the desk that he was watching. I glance that way and turn the light on and I hear it again...I get brave and go closer and there is this huge, gigantic FROG!! I let out a scream and Heather (DD) comes running. As now I have succeeded in waking her up and she knows from that scream she had better come as it normally means HER CAT has brought in someone or there is one huge palmetto bug! LOL So she looks at this frog and she is my frog catcher and says get the glass and paper plate! NO WAY am I touching that!! Well for the next 5 minutes she is trying to get this guy and he keeps hopping around. Finally he lands on the floor and I think alright we've got him now. Well he keeps hopping and ends up in the corner in the laundry room. Finally he jumps in the basket where we put the old magazines and newspapers for recycle day and she is able to get the glass over him and we take him outside and let him loose! I went back in and got the camera and here is the frog that started the commotion!

Good Morning!

I've been sitting here cruising the blog world this morning and ran across this blog contest. Carla is having a contest and the winner gets one of her awesome crocheted scarves. I sure would like to have the blue one. It's so nice of Carla to make that one just for me! Click on the link below to go to her blog to read all about it. A dear friend, Shirley has finally started her own blog! Man did I have to nag her to do it!

Quiltathon update

This past weekend was quiltathon weekend and I was able to get some sewing time in. I had lofty goals and sadly wasn't able to attain them. But I am pleased with what I did get done. On Saturday while at the sewing machine working on block #1 for the Star BOM Eddie thought he should help! LOL Silly kitty, for awhile he laid on the sewing table and just watched and looked out the window. But then he really started helping by coming over and laying down on the pieces that were waiting to be sewn and on top of the instructions I had printed off. Thank heavens I had closed the rotary cutter as he found it and wanted to play with it. I very quickly told him no and moved it. Off and on during the weekend I worked on the sock's for Mar's Lost Sock Swap and got 6 more completely finished! 1 more and I'm halfway done. And the clock is ticking.....the other thing that was accomplished was the complete cutting out for the magazine challenge I am doing with an online group/family. I am so wanting to start sewing on this, but am not letting myself start just yet....keep telling myself that socks are first then the challenge. However I may have to sneak in a few stitches this week. First pic is of Eddie helping me and the second pic is block #1 for the Star BOM.

Star BOM block #1

I'm participating in the Star BOM that Judy at Patchwork Times is hosting. I just finished block 1 and it was really easy! That is once I wrapped my head around the 1/16" deal! LOL Thanks Judy for the easy directions.

Our day in Tampa!

Jim and I went up to Tampa Weds for the Indians/Rays baseball game! Jim is an Indians fan who is slowing becoming a Rays fan! LOL We had awesome seats just on the first base line right off home plate. In the end the Rays won and man was it an exciting bottom of the ninth! Jim really likes Sal Fasano and I got a good picture of him and Evan Longoria was taking some batting practice in front of us prior to the game starting and I snapped one of him also. On the way up we stopped at the rest stop prior to going over the Sunshine Skyway bridge. Beautiful bridge as long as we aren't stop and go on it, like we were on the way home yesterday. I don't like being stopped on bridges....nope don't like it one bit! Unfortunately we both have to go back to work today....so I'm off to get the day moving around here.

Here is my 5th finish for July! This was a New Years Day Mystery hosted by Planet Patchwork a few years back. I finally finished it. Also are my other finishes for July. Thanks Peg for having his challenge. It really helped me get some things done.
