My poor husband!

Late Monday while in a meeting at work he was told that on Tues he would be flying to Cedar Rapids, Iowa....well needless to say he was not very happy about this...he has been numerous times in the past couple months....so he leaves Tues and calls me in the afternoon..he is in St. Louis and has been on the plane for roughly 2 hours waiting to get de-iced and take off....the pilot had just announced that the de-ice machine has broken and that the airport only has 1! So he had no idea when he was going to get to take off. About a 1/2 hour later he calls and announces that the flight is cancelled, he will be staying there tonight...fortunately he got a hotel room for the night. Gets into his room and the heater will only heat the room up to 66.....get more blankets! I call him this morning to see how it's going and he says on track to leave at 10! Yahoo! Then he calls back and says I've been bumped...no seat....poor guy....a little while later he calls all excited...I got unbumped!! So he should be in Cedar Rapids shortly!! Finally! Hopefully he won't have any trouble getting back home Friday night...he did say that there is snow on the way....keeping my fingers crossed he gets out ok on Friday, however he is going through Chicago on the way back to Florida.....

Another late Sunday Report Jan 27th

This was a fun week of sewing for me! I am so glad I took on this stashbusting, it is really helping me, along with attending classes again to get back to quilting. From Jan - Dec 2007 I hardly touched my sewing machine or even thought much about quilting...and that really made me sad. Unfortunately I let my promotion at work take over my life and I made a decision in Dec to not let that happen anymore! So last Weds I attended class and made a really cute table runner and all the fabrics are from the stash!! Yahoo! All that needs done is to make the binding and sew it on. I did some more on my hand applique at class on Saturday and worked on the centers for some snowflake blocks I am doing. Pic of table runner is in the post below this one.

Stashbusting total YTD: 14.75 yards (does not include fabrics for snowflakes)
Incoming total YTD: 1 yard

Sunday Report Jan 20th

Not a whole lot to report on this week.....I did finish the string quilt for our Daughter, all it needed was binding. Then I made 5 pillowcases to send to a friend who is going to send them to Iraq and I made a gift for my Scavenger Hunt partner.

Incoming total YTD: 1 yard
Stashbusting total YTD: 12.75 yards

Hand applique....

I have been wanting to learn how to hand applique for a number of years....always put it off for one reason or another! Well Sat I had my first of 2 classes. Learned alot and even have homework for next week's class. LOL The most trouble I'm having at the moment it tying that darn knot and threading the needle! But I am having fun and that is what counts. Next week we will work on tulips and leaves.

It's finished!

After work today I sewed the binding on the string quilt and it is finally done! Heather was really surprised when she came home and saw it on the couch.

Late Sunday report

This past weekend Jim and I went to the local quilt show. I was a little dissappointed as there were alot of art quilts....I'm really not into those....picked up a cute thing to go with the Scavenger Hunt gift, a neat little tin that holds pins, will use this to hold my applique pins and also found 4 F4's for the Lost Sock Swap that is coming up. So basically I was pretty good on my purchases this weekend. It was hard, all that fabric just calling me....

On the stashbusting front I now have 34 blocks completely sewn for the mystery quilt and all the half units are sewed together and waiting for me to press them open, then they will become blocks as well. And I cut up 5 yards of fabric to make pillowcases!

My stash isn't too big, but it isn't small either. There are also alot of projects mixed in these photos and UFO's etc!

Week #1 Stash report Jan 6, 2008

Well this week wasn't as productive as I had hoped. But then again I guess it might have been. LOL I got all 80 strips sewn together to make 40...then I cut them up, sewed them into triangle units and then tonight I was able to sit down and sew up 16 blocks. I guess the jelly roll I used for this quilt is considered stash busting as it was bought in Dec 07. So far all materials for this quilt are from my stash. I am getting anxious now to get all the blocks made so I can play with how I want the layout and sew it into a top.
Almost forgot I also made the binding for a string
quilt that I made a year or so ago. It is for our
daughter, Heather and she has no idea I am going to get it done this month!
Hope everyone had a great stash busting week!

New Year's Day...

New Year's Day here was a quiet one and very enjoyable. I actually was able to sit down and do some work on a new quilt. I had purchased the Sweet Baby Jane Jelly Roll from The Fat Quarter Shop. I needed 3 yards of background fabric for this quilt and I was able to pull it from my stash! I don't have the blocks made yet, as I have to cut the strips into triangles and then sew together. Hoping to get some of those made up tomorrow after work. This is going to be a really cute quilt. It was a NYD mystery on another quilt site I belong to. One of the ladies on their hosted the mystery. It is very had to not look ahead at the last clue, but I don't want to ruin the surprise. I had hoped to get more done on it, however we had a couple of Heather's friends over for a nice dinner and by the time they left, I was tired and afraid to cut in case I messed it up! Don't want to do that. Here's hoping everyone has a healthy and prosperous New Year!
